Semuliki National Park, on the far western side of the Rwenzori, sprawls across the Semliki Valley’s floor. The park’s easternmost extent is dominated by the Congo Basin’s massive Ituri Forest. This is one of Africa’s oldest and most biodiverse forests, as well as one of the few that survived the previous ice age, which lasted between 12 and 18,000 years ago. Despite the fact that the park’s species have been accumulating for over 25,000 years, there is evidence of considerably earlier processes. Hot springs emerge from the depths of the rift valley, illustrating the powerful underlying forces that formed it over the last 14 million years. Semliki National Park is a fantastic destination.
